| 6:11am |
The first hint of morning when Noel, our cabin steward (and the
supervisor, too) knocked at the door with breakfast. I waddled to
the door and was graced with a sort of bounty. |
| 6:43am |
We got underway after sitting still for about 20 minutes, waiting
for the track to clear of a train ahead of us. |
| 6:47am |
The sun decided to peek
out above the hills off to the left, in what I could only figure
meant we were heading north. |
| 7:13am |
Another 15 minute delay, this time at Campbelltown. It seems with
our train now a solid 90 minutes behind schedule, we're getting caught
up in the commuter train activity, further slowing our arrival into
Sydney. |
| 8:23am |
We chug to a stop in Central Sydney rail station, and find a chap
who's waiting to haul us over to the Travellodge. (Although with a
bit of directions, we could have walked it; it was only maybe three
long blocks, and our luggage has wheels, and I have Tubby to carry
me.) |
| 8:41am |
The car arrives at the hotel, is unloaded, and the driver is on
his way with a wave and a smile. At least I think that was a wave... |
| 8:49am |
We're at the hotel, and in our room up on Level 14, with a view
of nearby
buildings, and just down the hall from a Coke machine that dispenses
reasonably tepid beverages. I guess that's why one should also take
advantage of the ice machine? |
| 9:03am |
And it begins... well, nothing interesting, honestly. It's catch-up
day from all that we managed to see on Tasmania. |
| 12:57pm |
Done and posting. With that behind me (for another day, anyway),
we all headed down to the Museum station of City Rail, and got day
return tickets to Chatswood to hang out with those we first met up
with in Manila and whose employ with Tubby's company brought us to
Sydney in September 2002. |
| 4:54pm |
After adding Peter
and Ellison
("Sonny") to the ranks of the FrankPals, a darn nice
chat and a free Coke, we were off to Westfield Shopping Towne; today
is late shopping day, y'know. (Olga was off in the corner and worker
super hard, so we didn't do much more than say hi.) |
| 5:53pm |
Dinner took place at the food court there at the mall (naturally,
Subway again), we caught the Redford train back to the city, hopping
from it at Wynyard and alighting at Circular Quay. ("Quay"
is pronounced "key," by the by.) |
| 6:20pm |
The opal place Tubby and I are so fond of appeared to be closing
a bit early, despite the posted trading hours ending at 6:30pm. We
opted instead to just window shop for a bit (their opals are quite
lovely, really), and meander toward the Opera House along the Quay.
The on-and-off sprinkles had stopped, for now. |
| 6:32pm |
Since you were bound to get stuck with them sooner or later, I think
both sooner and later is good, so here you get the night versions
of the Harbour
Bridge, the skyline
as seen from the Quay, and the Opera
House. |
| 7:08pm |
Walking back, we cut through Hyde Park, which is quite nice at night
(once you pass the fountain that's all closed off in preparation for
a children's hospital fundraiser thing on the 17th of June), leaving
you with a long, well-lit
walkway. |
| 7:23pm |
We popped in for Diet Pepsi and an ice cream at the little City
Convenience shop at the end of the park and a block from the hotel,
before finally getting back a bit after 7:30pm |
| 8:44pm |
The updates done, and email checked and stuff. |
| 9:02pm |
Not quite sleepy time, but I'm off to get a few things done then
sleepy eyes. Bye! |
