Once you got into town, it felt like one of those places where, despite the obvious lack of anything that you or I would agree meant "civilization", you'd be reasonably happy calling home.  (Population 249, elevation 4,660 feet.)

As signs go, very impressive; the town itself couldn't back it up, but it's a great sign.	Yes, the town.  Perhaps you're able to note the contrast as well without further discussion.	The saloon was still open for business, however, so all was not lost.
... even if the hotel didn't far as well, in the long run.	A historic marker, sure, but what historical significance does this event truly provide?
