Day 2 - Friday, 23 August 2002

Setting:  Downtown New Orleans; includes the hotel (New Orleans Marriott), the convention center (Ernest N. Morial Convention Center), a cafe around the corner from the hotel, and of course, Bourbon Street -- hey, it's a Friday night.

Today's Cast:

  • We met Bill, Robert, Julia, and re-encountered the predictable Bald One.
  • Jenny, the bar girl at Razzoo's (walk-on role only)

7:45am - The alarm sounds.  Good, I guess.

7:54am - The phone rings.  Tubby tries to turn off the alarm; he's not doing well.  Julia is in the lobby to indicate breakfast plans involve a presence by 8am.  Good thing Baldie is without much hair to have to comb or otherwise tend to.  We depart for the lobby.

8:24am - After waiting for a few others in the lobby, we depart the hotel and arrive at the convention center.  Enjoying a light breakfast, the boy engages in heresy and has eggs; I settled for a bowl of dry cereal (which is how it was intended to be eaten, I believe).

9:00am (ish) - The lounge area setup begins.  It's marginally interesting, but I mostly just watched, sat where I could find a spot, and then when my feet got cold from all the air conditioning, perched on some of the network equipment.

1:30pm - Lunch.  The boy engaged two rolls as a weak-minded assault on the afternoon meal.

3:08pm - It began yet another thunderstorm.  I like rain, so I went out to check it out.  Of course, the lens kept fogging up, which helped contribute to the finger-like streak in the picture.  Oh well.

5:10pm - The team wraps up and heads back to the hotel.  The plan is to meet up in the lobby and head out to dinner.  Reservations are made, however, it is an establishment where Tubby's "Spongebob" t-shirt is not considered under-dressed.  This should be interesting, I'm thinking.

5:41pm - There was some lollygagging involved with the departure, but we arrived at long last.  We're still a single room, and it appears that could become the status quo.  The river offers a much better view during the day time, including being able to see the boats going here and there on the river.

7:00pm - The gathering in the lobby.  Hurrah!  The food and fun begins with dinner at Mike Andersons.  I didn't get taken out of my tote bag... bastard.  (BakedPotato,StuffedPotato,FrenchFries?)

10:15pm - The first of what would prove to be several girls bearing their souls (and other things) for beads.  Because Tubby apparently can't operate a camera any better that he can grow hair, all you see here is a prelude to debauchery.  (The others that took place, but didn't even get close to being camera-ready... or lacked any definition about their person.)

10:24pm - Tubby took a picture of Bourbon Street... big whoop.

11:24pm - After some gawking around the courtyard bar (Jenny was cute, pig-tails, the usual), I figured it was time to hit the dance floor at Razzoo's.

12:04am - One of New Orleans finest's horses ate the rose Julia had in her hand.  When Julia mentioned it to the officer, he told her, "Don't let him eat that."  Um, hello... your horse has already done the deed.  D'oh!

1:00am - We returned to the hotel.  In the interest of compassion, no additional photos of those we were with will be posted.  While I regret this decision, in the bigger picture (no pun intended), it's all for the best.
