| Ronald has had a crush on Cindy forever, but she doesn't know his name. At a back-to-school party, Cindy wears her mom's suede dress, and gets red wine spilled on it. She has to buy a new one, but doesn't have $1,000 for it -- but Ronald does (lots of lawn mowing). He offers to buy the dress for her if she will pretend to be his girlfriend for a month (so he can be popular). She agrees, helps him with new clothes to improve his image. Over the weeks, she begins to take an interest in him, but he's blind to it (caught up with his new-found popularity). They break up, and after Cindy's college boyfriend, Bobby, dumps her for being paid; she tells everyone of her agreement with Ronald at the big party. Everyone turns on Ronald, but he eventually apologizes to Cindy, tells off the bully jock (the "be yourself" speech), which is followed by the single clap that spreads. Ronald is back to mowing lawns. Cindy comes outside, begins to leave with her friends, but they stop, and she runs to Ronald and gets on his mower with him; they discuss the terms of them dating, and ride the mower off into the sunset. |
