MY WEBLOG

Home + 2 Days
Well, the rumours of jet lag have again proven untrue, at least relative to myself, and as near as I can tell, Tubby. We arrived home around 3pm on Thursday, didn't actually go to sleep until 3am Friday morning, up at 7am, then up again until 3am on Saturday morning, and rudely awoken at 7:20am by two parallel circumstances outside of our control. In any event, everything is unpacked and put away, I've managed to catch up on movies I've missed and people we've not chatted with for a while, and most importantly... nope, I guess that last thing would fall into that category. Just to validate the test further, I'll stay up late one more night, knowing full well those same two parallel circumstances will strike again tomorrow morning. But what can ya do?

Last but not least, Cairns!
Just an hour or so from the thick of the Great Barrier Reef, we're in northeastern Queensland. The climate is tropical and warm, similar to Darwin, but doesn't feel quite as humid. And unlike the hostel in Darwin, we're in a delightful resort with three pools, three restaurants, they're all about me (no, really -- I've had photos taken, given pens away and were given light-up resort pens and everything). But, we're booked for an all-day trip out to the outer Great Barrier Reef area, and we'll see if this coral reef thing is all that AND a bag of some sort of chips (or crisps, as they call them here). But for now, dinner... it's 8pm here, 1am in California and 4pm in New York (all on Tuesday).

Brisbane, Queensland... and Me
It's pronounced Bris-bin, it seems. And so very sleepy. It's nearly 11pm here (6am California time, 9am in New York), and after an all-nighter on a train's economy seats, sleep is a welcome thing. In a place where I can lay down, have a pillow, and don't have any creepy guys who've had plenty of beer chatting up blondes sitting near us. (Fortunately for the girl -- Tegan -- she hopped off the train around 2:10am in Coffs Harbour, and the bloke fell asleep or passed out.) Anyway, we're here, hopefully zoo-bound tomorrow, and as we close out day 24 of 28, we're entering that odd state of being ready to get home, even thought we don't necessarily want to leave.
