02/03/2004: "It's raining, it's pouring"

As though on cue, it started again raining yesterday as Tubby was going to work (or so he claims). This wouldn't be all that noteworthy, except for the tidbit that he'd just gone through the car wash not five minutes before to clean the car of all the mud and dirt, grime and salt from the roads of last weekend's trip to the mountains. Bygones. As we were heading out to the ocean, we popped into Jack-in-the-Box for food. I like food. We're standing third in line and ready to order (a #8 for him, a #7 for me); the girl at the counter (whose sweatshirt heralds she's from the local high school) takes a solid two minutes to order a burger with bacon, but not the Bacon Ultimate burger (#7), rather the #6 (Ultimate cheeseburger), but wait, there's no bacon. How about the #10, that's the Bacon Bacon Ultimate, right? "No, now the #10 is the Ultimate Club." And on and on. It only got worse when the elderly couple in front of us proceeded to order their chicken tacos, and a shared small soda, no, make it a medium... for $3.97. I suspect that even with my tubby companion, we were by far the easiest order to take and fill, and we actually knew what we wanted. And even spent more than $4 ($12.46 total, in fact). I love travel -- I get to see people of other towns in their native habitats.
