12/17/2003: "Things I Don't "Get," Volume 7"
• So, I'm driving down the street, I see a woman walking her small Spinger Spaniel doggie. But more to the point, why is she wearing black crushed velvet? She's not that old, she's not an Elvis impersonator, and velvet isn't that attractive. Granted, I haven't received my January copy of Style yet, but I'm pretty sure crushed velvet isn't coming back.
• A few minutes later, I'm sitting at a red light. There's no cross-traffic, except a few cars turning right from the right-hand lane. Since everyone can turn right safely and legally on the red after stopping. But it was only a two minute wait. But still.
• It's a movie day. I end up at the theatre, we hit the restroom briefly, and can't help but wonder why there is popcorn scattered on the floor. After all, the theatre has only been open for maybe an hour, and none of the movies have ended yet, so... what the heck?
• Unless you're hard pressed for a seat, why does anyone arrive at the movie theatre early any more? When I was just a wee chick, movies had a few previews, and boom, film. Today, I sat through 17 minutes of previews, product commercials (Coke is the worst offender), a happy anniversary to the movie theatre from itself commercial, and some ramblings of the guy telling us that downloading movies from the internet is wrong. Riddle me this, Bat Man... do you think the people sitting in the theatre are doing that? You should find a way to encode those commercials on the movies on the interet being shared on Kazaa and stuff, but not bore me with it here.
