09/24/2003: "Clever in a Sea of Stupidity"

CalTrans (DOT to the rest of the world) has those delightful traffic metering lights on at the on-ramps around these parts. So, Tubby and I are heading home this afternoon, and we're stuck at the lights, sort of. In front of us are two brunettes in a black Mustang, who apparently are confused at the two metering lights. Which could be confusing, if you didn't know there are two lanes (yes, Virginia, the math checks out). The driver was clearly looking at the far light for the left lane, but we were both in the right lane (even though both they and we were technically carpools; anyway). But given no cars in the left lane, that light didn't turn green, despite the one for our lane cycling green and back to red several times. They finally figured it out, thankfully. And the day got better from there. I ended up working on some movie endings, sundry trip plans, and am fielding an invitation to go to Moab, Utah, for some off-roading thing with a guy from Tubby's work; the guy goes by many names, but I'll merely refer to him as Slosh for our purposes, as that's also his web site address. But I'm leaning toward going, since it would be nice to travel with someone other than the Bald Wonder for a change...
